Kampung Buah Pala - episode of sadness.......

I had a brief discussion with one of my old Indian guard, who is also a retired TNB technician.

He told me he has some friends living in Kampung Buah Pala. To my surprise, he did not also support his own clans, and calling them naive and cow-headed!

As an outsider, he saw what we could see, that the kampung folks had been abducted, seduced and ultimately cowed into trusting the cheap politicians - Hindraf, MIC and Gerakan goons....!

When the Developer had offered up to an irresistible compensation scheme even the middle class people are dreaming for, a terrace house which easily worth more than 250K in Penang, they are claiming that it would be too small to accommodate their 3-generation family members, or their extended family members - and rejected the offer! To my astonishment, why didn't they also ask for a multi-level house for their cows and poultry?! It will be difficult for the outsiders and the public at large not to think of their unquenchable greed which is, ultimately, going to drag them into the deeper quagmire of loosing everything, in the eyes of law!

The racist politicians in the guise of their venerable leaders, together with the lackeys, the Resident Association's vice-secretary have been telling them that they are the gifted minority, and they deserve more for their land!

And their land? A Trust Deed allowed them to dwell in the land some many decades ago, which had also been long enough lapsed, could possibly give them the rights to the title?!

Probably only the ex-CM KTK knows the answer. Thus bringing all the herds of cows and poultry to his high mansion and let the cows be grazed with the Taiwan grass in the compound, is one way to demand for justice, and a fair deal, and also, the right thing to do!

They should have now realized, they are the hill billies, the uneducated hoi-pollois they are easily being manipulated and enticed to behave like the cows of ignorant and demeanor - bull-headed! Flaying on the LGE Government is pot shot, the real culprit is the one who sanctioned and approved the sales of land, who is KTK of Gerakan, should be reprimanded!

They are in utter predicament, most of them, of didn't exploit the opportunity to amicably sit down and negotiate with the Developer, also the State Government. They are in the state of panicking and lost direction. Only the so-called RA still remains the lackeys of the politicians and play solo! Of course, they have own a handful of tough nuts or hardcore members whom they are goofy heads, thinking that the land they stay belongs to their great grandfathers! They are totally law-blind and illiterate. Such a pity!

Come Sept 1st, it will be the last day where most probably all the cows will have to be delivered to the slaughter house for meat. No more cows' milk mixed with sap of Buah Pala (nutmeg) in future!

I always maintain my stand - to only sympathize with the women and the children! The pictures of the journalists' creation had attested - only the poor old ladies and the children were on the front line, latched their arms, cried in hysteria and even had fainted some - the children missed their classes and had silly placards clued to their back, behaved mischievously like those we use to see in Botanical Garden..blah..blah...all the charades!

Come back to the issue, after taking a detour - the men of Kg Buah Pala are born cowherds! They are bullish, yeas, but 有勇无 谋 (lack of wisdom)! They are typical cowherds. They must know the rules to be the typical cowherds - first, they should not be swollen headed like the 阿么里肯 (American) cowboys who thought they could chase after the Red Indians! They are the black indians here in Bolehland, they are being chased!

For politics needs double heads, no ordinary cowherds can handle! The rule is - once they are cowherds, they are cowherds! And if they do wish to be generational cowherds, meaning, leading a perpetual cowherd's life, they would have to shift to another pastureland at the Country side so as the cows can graze, the cowherds and the families can graze, lives will only be peaceful!

Kampung Buah Pala doesn't belong to them anymore, the fact which is undeniable, unless there is any miracle! The lush of pasture there is going to dry up or to be rolled under the tar in the soonest time!

Politics is no profession of the cowherds. It's too tough for them. It's the prerogative of the fork-tongue double head vipers! Like the many depraved politicians or their goons - spiteful and venomous!

In politics, the politicians are the cowherds, the villagers are the political cows!

God bless the villagers of KBP and may all the naivety and foolishness be pardoned!

  1. If the politicians can be trusted, the pig can also climb the tree!

Before the cowherds lose everything at all, they must unhook from being further cowed by the ego-centric political morons, or else they will be at the receiving end of all the plights!

Trust only themselves, all political animals can go to hell!

    Stupidity has got no cure!

  6. When the crafty politicians of MIC,UMNO and Gerakan fame leads the Kg Buah Pala up the heaven's path, the villagers will see hell in heaven.

The real person who sold the land is in hiding and only comes out in the papers to tell the villagers to talk to Guan Eng to get the state government to buy over the land.

Why didn't auntie Koh Tsu Koon gave the land to the villagers of Kg. Buah Pala when he was the CM and save all these troubles for the villagers ? Or did he have a different agenda of getting the new state government to buy over the land at market price and then share the difference with the Cooperative ?

Only Koh Tsu Koon knows as the actual transaction of sale was penned by him anyway.

Koh Tsu Koon owes the people of Penang an answer.

  7. Agreed to the point that Koh Tsu Koon is hiding in the kitchen and sending out his kindergarten goons to KBP to show off their concerns which to me, is most disgusting!

CM LGE may have to be resposibled with his Party manifesto since it had been pledged to help solve the ordeal of the villagers. Whether the partial and remainding 12 families whom they refused to accept the offer of the link houses were voting for DAP is immaterial!

And LGE did try to help negotiate for the best deal for the folks who are obviously, the fans of the BN bloc, has been considered he had done his part to mend the hole or pitfall that had been planted prior to 308.

There are critics trying to paint up LGE as an arrogant CM liken to the UMNO ex-MB K Toyo and this is something he has to watch out and prove his righteousness to all Penangites that he is not as racist as what Hindraf is trying to portray him as only a pro-Chinese CM, who is inconsiderate of the minority Indian community in Penang!....He's a CM for all!

Hindraf has now formed into a political party and it's obvious that the RA lackeys are there to measure up mileage for the forthcoming GE, and pave way, come 2013 or earlier!

What we Penangites cannot accept is - Hindraf is playing with fire with the racial card which only proves them no difference from the most dispicable Umno and MIC racists! Both are tumbling blocks to our beloved Nation's unity!

They are the impedance to the National development and advancement too!

  8. What could LGE have done when these people of KBP were instigated and manipulated by scums from BN, MIC, Hindraf to further their cause in destabilizing the PR Govt of Penang. Now you pay for your follies.

LONG LIVE PR, PAS, PKR AND DAP.

  9. Why not go after that cock-eyed ex-CM Koh Tsu Koon and ask him what hanky-panky went on in the sale of the land? Why was it sold for so little to the Koperasi when it actually cost 150 times more??

How can you refuse to move out after you've sold the land, and then ask for more money?

And now the villagers are rejecting the 250K offer of a new terrace house!!

    One word: GREED.

  10. Hey, Kampung Buah Pala villagers, see what the BN MIC Hindraf trouble-makers have caused you? Now rumah teres R250K pun lenyap! Go move to Putrajaya and live there lah if you love to listen to those BN thieves so much!

And stop harassing LGE, you ungrateful hooligans! He helped negotiate the house deal for you and you threw it back in his face. PODAH!

  14. These dumbshoots in that village is ungrateful, useless and totally foolish in economic sense, the real gems of Penang is real estate as it is an island state like Singapore and HK, if these fools are any smart they should take the offer which is even a good one by KL standard and their living standard and prosper from there in an instatnt from cowherd outcast to middle class kingdom, all they know is tradition and "extended family" nonsense like other people don't have such humanely speaking, fact is these are indeed "High Chaparal" outcast who deserves to be poor down their generations to come. These people have what they expect from the state government they elected in 308 but their naivity and greed make them the loser of all time so it is no more Kg Buah Pala so they should go find a new pasture land and name it Kg Buah Pariah.

  15. Been to www.mykampungbuahpala.blogspot.com
Nothing change. No new proof? By the way the doc clearly state the land is Hak Sementara. TOL land. If Kg Pala folks wants to argue with teh doc then they have to accept the fact that the land they are now hogging is a TOL land. Not their land. I read further, Kg Pala folks is real greedy. They think they are buying a house??? They want to see the layout and see the show house. What a crap? 3 days to make decision? If it free, u need not a second to make a decision. Brainless argument.

  16. these souls are being gullible without knowing their stand. We had seen cases where entire squatter village went up in flames before the development process of making highways, esp those who live in penang island should know this during the early 2000. There's no better deal than this, unless their very stubborness would want their grand children to rear cows as means of living.

  18. This is a sad issue of double-standards of Chief Minister LGH and his father LKS, the leader of DAP. I like to compare how both these guys fought till the end for the 'Bukit Cina graveyard' in Melaka. Mind you, they fought to save 12,000 skeletal remains of Chinese from the Ming Dynasty. In modern terms Bukit Cina an only abandoned graveyard. They saved it because it's a Chinese heritage site. LGH says that he has arranged a good alternative for the KBP villagers. But will he, his father or the Chinese community agree to this alternative: - move all the skeletons from Bukit Cina into a building and leave the hill for development? Singapore Govt has done it; they have exhumed all graves for development and housed the remains in buildings.

KBP is not an ancient graveyard but a village where people are still living and leading a active agrarian life-style. This is also a heritage site still alive and never abandoned. Shouldn't it be preserved as an Indian heritage site?

LGH wants the villagers to change their life-style and live in a housing-colony without any land for cultivation etc. How are these people going to adjust to this new life-style dictated by LGH? These people may be doing odd jobs in the nearby town but they get back to their land for cultivation, cattle rearing etc. A combination of all these jobs makes their livelihood. Has LGH’s govt formulated any strategies for them to face this difficult transition? In the real sense they don't have an answer to the problems created by the Gerakan & the present PR govt. It's not just a double-story terrace house will solve all their problems

LGH argues that KBP now belongs to the Korporasi and that he can't do anything to change this agreement. He very well knows that UMNO owes quit-rent and 'cukai-pintu' (amounting to more than RM80,000.00) to Melaka state govt for the Bt Cina graveyard. That means Bukit Cina belonged to UMNO and can be taken over by the state BN govt for development. Somehow the BN State govt did not serve the final court-order to demolish the graveyard. Does this show the greatness of the state BN/UNMO govt? Or does the KBP standoff show the rigidness to the PR/DAP state govt?

LGH needs the will to negotiate a good deal for the villagers. He shouldn't stick onto your double-story link house as a compensation plan. Look at how the villagers of Kg LBJ (Seremban District) were compensated. The Kg LBJ residence once owned small-holders rubber plantation. When their land was taken-over they were compensated with money that made them 'Over-night Millionaires'. The BN Govt once again proved it can look into the interest of the villagers (though they were mostly Malays with about 5 Indain families).

LGH is blaming HINDRAF, MIC etc for instigating the KBP villagers to demand unreasonable compensation for their land & house. But long before all these happened why did PR (that includes LGH, LKS, Anwar, Karpal etc) and the NGOs link to them instigated the residents not to move out of their houses and make impossible demands to the previous Govt. During the last GE, Anwar and other Pakatan leaders themselves promised to solve the issue if they get to rule Penang. Never in their wildest dream did they think LGH will become the CM of Penang. Now LGH is holding the 'bomb' that PR created long ago. Long before HINDRAF took the same stand. But PR is still safe because the 'bomb' may explode in KBP, destroying the livelihood of the villagers on Sept 1st, 2009.

  20. It's so sad when politics get adulterated with the common social issue, the desperate rakyat seek recourse from the politicians and got into the pitfall entrapped like the hares!

Now that the hares have been chased after by the hounds, blood-thirsty, yet there is no better asylum but to see their nests of ages to be demolished and removed in no time!

Since the villagers are the down-trodden group by whatever it is, continuing to blame certain parties is not a solution to the problem....

The exegency now is to get the unsettled villagers to face the reality and compromise with the upper hand (since they have the court order) so as to ensure the villagers are being compensated with a dwelling place to accomodate their families, and pacify the panicking children, as the foremost critical consideration.

Straight fight and direct confrontation with the high handed developer will not gain any benefits for the pathetic villagers! More so, their so-called struggle was based on very fragile ground with some politicians working on ground based on their own agenda, not really they are for the poor villagers, but for their own purchase of political mileage!

It's really pitiful to see the already been stressed to the limit kampung folks doomed to be the cannon fodders, come Sept. 1st!

    God Bless!

  21. My heart goes to the residents. But their predicament could not solely be blamed on the present state govt nor the previous govt. The blame goes all the way back to the British who gave us the Torrens System of land registration.

If your claim to the land is not registered in the register you are not the owner.

The British Administration were intelligent enough not to import England notion of adverse ownership that is if you have occupied the land to the silence of the owners for more than 12 years you can claim the land.

As Penang has been made a crown colony, not a very particular big Island, the a colonial began partitioning then Island into lots and this was refined to the land registration at the end of the 19th century.

All lands that did not have registered claims on them or have been alienanted (that is granted) by the colonial govt became state land.

The residents' ancestors did not protect their interests and successive admintistration did not bother to tell them to do so because for obvious reasons.

The residents happily live in their ignorance not caring about the greed of mankind whether those who want their land, their votes, their money and their just cause.

As a lawyer i would have fought for them and would vainly hope for a better outcome but in the end a good lawyer would have convinced them to take the houses offered as they have fought a good fight and now its time to move on.

If I was the judge in the FC, I would have to uphold the law of the land as it stands, that the register is very thing. Occupiers on Sate lands are tresspassers no matter how many generations one may have lived on it.

  22. Mak,

Thanks for your brief narration on the British law and its handicaps to the ignorant citizens.

Many a time, people used to take for granted that since they gave born to a place, or rather hailed from a place, they automatically have put their toe prints there on the ground without knowing, toe print is not recognized, but finger print, perhaps!

I did wonder, how come the villagers didn't bother about the land title until they were downgraded to become the squatters on the TOL, yet there were not being bothered to transact with the State Government, since they have been high crying that they are the lawful owners, by virtue of the High Court ruled out?!

I concur with you that up to this stage of no turning back, to accept the settlement agreement of a terrace house is far from a lean deal. Afterall, they had neglected the responsibilities as the land owners, by all means, they could have even defaulted the contribution to the quit rent and accessment or house rates. That could possibly be one major factor which caused them to disown the land through the course of land law took place!

In Penang, should one is capable of owning a terrace house, he's considered somebody financially capable and how can the cowherds expect to become overnight millionaires at the expense of the State Government and by holding the concerned parties at ransom?!

The have been seen as not only the insatiate folks but also gullible in the sense, they willingly doom to be the cannon fodder in this purely - a political game!
